Blog Tour and Book Review: Hot and Bothered by Erika Wilde

Sigh...It happens...It comes to a point when you get a bit jaded. You read so many books in a genre and you start expecting certain standards. I read the first book in this series and it didn't blow my mind away. So instead of walking away..what do I do? I decide to sign up for the third book in the series..because apparently, I don't learn.
I am not impressed by the writing. Repetitive phrases will get my head out of the book really quickly, but repetitive adjectives for the same body parts? Why? There's only so many times I can read about "striking blue eyes". When you write for a genre that is a billion-dollar industry, I expect a little more than the same words over and over.
The story has its issues too. Natalie, an amnesia victim after a car accident, somehow throws herself at him, has no problem jumping into bed with Noah, who spends all this time protecting her, making sure she's with people when he's not with her. The stalker is escalating, but all of a sudden he goes for a grocery run and leaves her alone? WTF. The sex scenes read like something written in the '90s, which left me scratching my head. There's just so much that does not work. This is just the type of book that makes romance novels a cliché.
The story as a whole felt a little dated and lo and behold, it was originally published in 2002. If we're going to repackage a story eighteen years later, how about we update and revise? No..just..no. I can't believe how many 5 stars review this story has..this is why readers have trust issues!
If you want to stay in the nineties, that's cool, but I expect a lot more from my romance novels. Not recommending this book.
He’s finally met his match . . .
Hot and Bothered, an all-new, steamy, must-read contemporary romance from New York Times bestselling author Erika Wilde, is available now!
P.I. Noah Sommers has always wanted Natalie Hastings. When a car accident leaves her with short-term memory loss, he doesn’t hesitate to take her in, along with protecting her when he learns she’s acquired a stalker. The hardest part of living with Natalie is keeping his hands off her until she can remember what happened. Only, he hadn’t counted on this beautiful, sexy woman making his job so difficult.
Natalie’s world has been turned upside down. Her only constant is her gorgeous “fiancé”, Noah. And she wants him . . . constantly. Only, all of a sudden he’s acting nobly. But not for long, because Natalie is planning a seduction he won’t be able to resist. Before long, she has Noah right where she wants him. In her bed and her heart.
But what will happen when Natalie discovers that their relationship was all an act?
